Regarding the media buying aspect of this position, let me clarify. This is primarily an affiliate sales and business development position as the title suggests. An ideal candidate would have some media buying experience because it relates to the job. If I'm trying to land a potential large publisher as an affiliate, but they are not willing to work in that capacity, my next step will be to see if we can do an ad buy through them. Knowing how to calculate what it will take to back that out and being able to negotiate a reasonable deal based on that math is something that I'd like my biz dev guys/gals to be able to do.

I agree that a true dedicated media buyer is a full time job and I wouldn't ask that type of specialist to do these other tasks. At the end of the day though we are a mid sized company where people do wear multiple hats and my best and most successful employees are ones that have a diverse skill set. It never hurts to look for exactly what you want.
