If you pay really close attention to the tv and newspapers in the background of various scenes, you'll see they mention the spaceship "icarrus". Icarrus was charlton hestons space ship in planet of the apes in 1968. During rise, the icarrus is launched with 3 astronauts, and then lost. Presumably, they have entered a time warp and come back to earth to find ceasers fate in dawn. I really hope they carry this thread into the new movie.
