Hamas refuses to accept a ceasefire, and even at times when Israel stopped their attack due to UN requests, Hamas still fired rockets.
Some of it is black and white. One sides government is labelled a terrorist organization by the entire western world and targets civilians on purpose. The other side targets military objectives, that are located in civilian zones, schools, the un is investigating a weapons cache in one of their hospitals. If true that's pretty fucking horrible.
