People, generally speaking of course, were always self-involved, ignorant, rude and blissfully unaware. The smart phone is just the lastest UV light that exposes the mess bolder and brighter than anything ever before in history has. Long ago the comic book was the thing. "Would you put away those damn comics and come to dinner!!"
Then it was video games.
Then computers. "Fuck, how long are you going to sit at that damned computer?!"
Then computer games.
Then x-box.
And all the while all that was going on, the cell phone was making it's move towards turning nearly all of society into distracted zombies who give the person in front of them less than a 1/4 of their attention span.
My favorite is people who carry on their phone conversation right through the checkout line at the supermarket. They're a special kind of brilliant.
