Brain Washing 101 - Group conformity via a ritualistic activity such as this "dancing" behavior is the most basic and fundamental method of mind control.
The person feels included in the group by knowing/learning some usually "secret" handshake or in this case some "dance" which only someone who is part of their group knows. New recruits are taught this action and made to feel special.
Individuals feel included in the group by becoming part of a unit which must work with the group and not as an individual effectively stripping the individual of their identity. Repeat this often enough and it is easily applied to other areas of behavior.
No different than the endless drill marching of any military on the face of the earth really.
