You can spread it with your hands by touching open sores, and if you're really goofy you can spread it to your eyes where it becomes a really big problem.

HSV-1 and HSV-2 are closely related in the same family and can develop orally or in the genitals, but MOST oral infections are HSV-1 where as most genital are HSV-2.

I'm not sure what the technical definition of an STD is, so it probably counts because it CAN be caught that way, but it's not that simple.
