They call them cold sores because when you have a cold your immune system is down and they pop up like a drunken mother in law. Stress is also a huge factor for inflammation and immune response.
Hsv1 I would bet 50% of the population is a gross under estimate. More like 85% . You know the old joke "I once knew someone that didnt have cold sores. What an ugly third grader"
Either Hsv1 or Hsv2 you can get any where including your eyes. Very common shit. More often the tinier bumps on the genitals are Hsv2 bigger blisters on your face Hsv1.
They are in the same family as Varicella(Chicky Pox) and Herpes Zoster(shingles) but are different animals. Same meds to knock it down though.
I have Shingles now and have been on acyclovir for almost a week. I don't recommend getting that shit but anyone who has had chicken pox can get it and it can(but not easily) give chicken pox to people who have never had pox or the vaccine.
BTW get the Shingles vaccine and have your kids get the chicken pox vaccine. Cuts the duration and pain down immensely.
