It's actually quite 'royal' to keep in touch with the common reality out there, as in out there in their country and across the UK. Royals of Britain have been doing it for centuries. Military service. Public service. Philanthropic pursuits, etc.
To do otherwise, as in being all 'detached and snooty', if history is any indicator, often leads to resentment amonst the commonfolk, revolt, and in the case of one such "Let them eat cake" utterer... a good and proper beheading. Of course that was France, not GB. That sort of thing would never happen in a civilised nation. :D
