Through recorded human history it's usually a lot worse then this. Even in modern society we cannot escape the masses of uncivilized on the planet influencing our psyche.
What's wrong with people is too many need uplifting and to few who can help are selfless enough to assist. So the suffering continues, leading to anger, then violence, then death
