I was raised on a ranch and our land and everyone around us for perhaps hundreds of miles were over run by gophers. It was insane how many gopher holes existed just an acre of land. They were ruining the land and hurting other species. So the county would pay us 5 cents a gopher tail. It barely paid for our ammo. But me by brother and my father would all take our .22 rifles out and shoot gophers for hours. We would cut off their tails and put the tails in a jar and then take them to someone who would pay us. Then we would buy more ammo . This is what we did for fun when I was 5 years old. Now that I think about it I am disgusted by it
