It doesn't work this way. The time traveling is really possible in theory - there is no physical law that denies such a possibility (time is just one of dimensions we are living in). However you can't go back in time and kill your grandpa.
When you get back say to 1900, it will create a parallel reality which will live with its own life which you can change, but it won't affect to that world you have came for.
In other words, your grandpa here will be a copy of him there. If you kill him, a copy of your father and a copy of you will never be born... in
this reality. So it won't affect you (you won't die/disappear of that). On the other hand, there is no way to get back an tell the people about time machine, because you can't get back in time withing the same reality. That will be another one.
Hope my explanation of the modern time theory was understandable.
