When I was a kid I always needed the newest / fastest gaming system. I never waited in line for anything, but at some point I always upgraded. I went from Atari to Nintendo and so on and so forth until I finally discovered... You can play all of these games on PC. No need to buy a game system at all.

As for phones... I don't wait in line for them either. I had my last phone for about three years and was fine with it, and only got the Galaxy S5 because my wife wanted to upgrade hers so I went into the store with her and discovered it was only $99 so I got one too. It did exactly the same thing my last phone did, only is a bit bigger - which takes some getting used to.

A phone is a phone at this point. I bet you the damn Amazon Fire phone that they give away for a song and a dance is just as good. As long as your phone can run apps, the only thing that makes it different from any other phone is screen size. (And Apple finally caught up.)
