Imagine, if you're thinking branding, you need it to be instantly readable, and instantly recognisable.
I'd use a simpler version of the paw (without the lips or girl) on the side, in one spot colour, then use horizontal text next to it in white, or other plain colour.

Agreed.

I like the 2nd logo but all I see is the picture and the actual site name is just bland text in the way. I'd re-position the domain as a straight read toward the bottom, maybe add a little color.
