it's funny...you're totally right in general (I'm thinking about the old stories of Americans who would sew CA flags on their backpacks when traveling) but when it comes to ex-pats Canadians tend to be quite disliked amongst local populations, in the Caribbean at least. Down here Canadians (well, white Canadians really) are considered rude, snobby and insular, far more so than Americans or anyone else really (except for maybe the Brits after too many pints

From my observations that perception is accurate. It's like local populations are scary to most Canadians; it's REALLY rare to see a Canadian comfortably parring with anyone Caribbean-born down here. Hell, the island I'm on right now is chock full of Canadians but I rarely even see one because they all cling together in their little private club. I attribute that to Canadians being cautious as a culture, and as much our country prides itself on being a 'mosaic' ultimately that construct is a fraud.
