How is it a money thing? It's a responsibility issue.
If you choose to go to West Africa to help, which I fully support and is fantastic, you also need to be responsible for the people back home. Coming home and walking around town while still within the possible three-week window is not being responsible. It's putting others at risk. This guy could have been walking around on the subway feeling totally fine and then get hit with illness, throwing up everywhere, infecting everyone.
Furthermore, if you come back from West Africa, how can you in good conscious go home and live with your girlfriend and not wonder whether or not you could get sick and get her sick? All you need to do is throw up, all you need to do is sweat, and you put her at risk.
This is just stupid.
