I don't see any problem with that statistic. Fact is, that's enough to get an accurate representation of voters. Hell, polls require ~1200 people to get highly accurate data for the nation's 600+ million people as a whole.
No, instead, what the turnout shows is that republican voters are more energized than democratic voters/dem voters are more lazy than repub voters.
