If you lived forever, you'd be guaranteed to outlive your children, which is bad enough on a purely emotional level, but you'd also outlive your grandchildren and great-grandchildren. And they'd outlive their children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and so on. At some point during all this, the process would unravel the very fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the entire universe.
