Dunno if it's the same for everybody - but I tend to cheer for the animal that's the featured 'star' of the clip.
Like, if it's a documentary about big cats...I'm sympathetic for the cats to take down their prey so they get a meal.
It comes down to perspective and what you develop an affinity towards in the food chain.
