SURVIVING stage 4 cancer is rare. stage 4 is a metastatic cancer, meaning it has spread from it's original site.

Disease-free survival rate of stage 4 is somewhere between 1% and 4%.

For you to know 3 survivors statistically you'd have to know anywhere between 80 and 300 stage 4 patients. So yes I would say that is quite rare.
