I just purchased a new 15" Macbook Pro Retina today (16gb Base model). I use one at work but have to give it back soon as I am leaving.
I would recommend you buy a 16gb model if you can. My 8gb model seems to always using up it's swap space... (though I have never had it slowdown on me).. and you can't upgrade it, so...
I think you'll enjoy using it. I love mine. Awesome machine.
