I like the re edit too, but there's an argument that can be made for the original trailer. We're teased by a scene of a desert. We would not yet know that this is a Star Wars movie. The reveal of the Stormtrooper is a gentle lead-in to an ever increasingly exciting climax, the Millennium Falcon flight.
For the light sabre, fans shouldn't be so quit to hate it. Maybe this one was made by a different designer and serves a different purpose? Let's let the story tellers decide this for us.
