There is actually a movie coming out soon about Richard Jewell who was the guy who was suspected of being the bomber at the Atlanta Summer Olympics.
While working as a security guard during the games he found a suspicious looking backpack and alerted the police. He helped evacuate the are and likely saved a bunch of lives. He was then considered a suspect and the media basically convicted him before any of the facts every came out. It destroyed his life. Once the facts came out and the media were found to be wrong few of them offered any kind of retraction. They basically ruined his life.
These days in the media is all about being first even if you aren't right.
