It sure does seem silly that a store owner would feel "threatened" by someone walking around with their hands in their pockets, and it's entirely possible the store owner was the wrong in the wrong or had bad intent.

But it was the way the guy was talking. Any time a cop talks to you, you should say "yes sir" or "no sir". This guy was kind of combative although it ended well.

Again, not all cops are good. But you be respectful, give them as little info as possible, and get away from them as soon as you can.
