There has been a lot of extreme wet season weather in that part of the world this year... normally, apart from smoke from forest fires, the South China Sea between Sumatra and Borneo is pretty smooth sailing. Big storm vortexes are supposed to be impossible on the equator, but the weather radar looked intense.
I am not surprised, really. I discovered this in looking into the 10 year anniversary of the tsunami and how the villages I worked in are doing. Flooded, for many weeks...
