I used to think just like you, but then I found some online radio stations playing my kind of music. I'm happy I did, because it's helped me discover tons of artists I would've never heard of otherwise. I would just've been stuck listening to my 20+ yo faves, bitching that music today is all shit.

You nailed it with "depends on how proactive you are in finding new music..." - I found myself nodding in total agreement. The mainstream classic rock station I listen to at work all day just plays the old standards over and over...and I have to remind myself that there's new stuff (in my genre) out there...it's just not as easy to find as it was 20 years ago.
But a few of my favorite old bands are still making new releases - but not getting much radio play for the new material. So I've resorted to looking for their new stuff on Youtube, and then digging around to buy the new releases I like. My wife's always asking why I spend so much time on Youtube - but then she goes, "Oh, I really like that song" when I find a nugget buried somewhere.
