Yes, sometimes gun would be good, or at least better. But shit things still happens, no amount of guns isn't going to change that. Have you heard about chance?

This is not war, but this is still fine example: during WWII, 75 % of all british casualties were inflicted by shells, bombs and mortar rounds. Of course you can take cover, not to place yourself to most obvious places, etc., but this demonstrates that not all things are in your hands, no matter how Rambo you are.

So, the bottom line is: yes, having a gun helps in some situations, but it also brings illusion about safety/survival, that it ain't going to bring. You are seeking that illusion and defending hauling guns around, based on that illusion. In Europe, people are brave enough to take their chances mentally and literally.

And I have nothing against guns in general; I have two lying on the floor as I am doing some maintenance to those (oiling stocks), but I ain't hauling those around in public places to have some illusion about safety.
