It seems odd that at 1st that there would be film noir set within a high school but it's the perfect setting considering the school hierachy keeps it all tight knit, insestuous and claustrophobic yet allows for the diversity of character and ease of understanding narrative through their stereotypes.

i simply cannot fathom that this would be anyone's favorite movie, but im glad you liked it

The concept just doesnt work (for me), it's a nice idea on paper but watching it it's like kids playing cops and robbers with a camera. I just couldn't take it seriously as a movie at all. Like watching a high school play.
Side note, a very good movie i watched recently is Nightcrawler. Loved this one. If Brick is one of your favourites of all time, you desperately need to watch the hundreds of better movies, Brick wouldn't be in your list anymore. You'll thank me
