I view it as an amusing paradox. When one devotes themselves to ANY set of beliefs, they are going to always remain consistent with and behave in a manner consistent with those beliefs. The paradox in this case, is that for one person to have God on his side, directly implies that the others (i.e. victims) do not. If you've devoted your life to an idea (or any belief system which guys your life) such as that which says that God is in control, you can't just simply abandon it as that would shatter in one moment everything you know and your understanding of everything. For example, his mother no doubt remains consistent with her belief that her son is innocent. That is unlikely to change and has nothing to do with religion. The shit she spews from a religious standpoint is merely a convenient coping mechanism to further enable and reinforce her denial.
And to be fair, he seems to have very very little support for those he knows in the church circles.
