How do you expect your kid to grow up and function as a young adult, if you plan to hold their hand at every step. I was riding my bike to school everyday by grade 5 & 6 which is roughly what a 10yo would be. It wasn't a short distance either, it was a few miles and it's not like I was alone. A very large precentage of my school back then rode bikes or walked to school. It was normal and not a single kid at my school was ever hit by a car or kidnapped.

This is why kids go up today not being capable of making good decisions or have behavuear problems, because parents today are over protective.
