Some affs like NATS, some like CCBill. Some affs prefer PPS, some prefer Revshare. So, as always, it depends.
Tools today? Banners, videos in mp4 format with a dump tool for tubes, animated hosted ads, maybe some FHGs.....
But really today it's about relationships and getting your affiliates what they need, and that can be different for most affs. NATS is more expensive than CCBill so factor that in, too.
If you are on your own then I would totally recommend, at this point, going with CCBill and using Woj for his scripts and support.
