no idea what you are talking about... "Ukraine" is the correct form, not because some professor said so, but it just is...
so I highly doubt some other English professor would claim that "the Ukraine" is the correct form, as that would be incorrect...
just like no English professor would ever mix up "then" and "than"... not sure why you are creating confusion/ambiguity, when there is none...
