You posted that article. And last time it was war between West and Russia, but thanks for the clarification what you count as west. That article defines west more broader. We are not talking about hemispheres in here.

About NATO; as soon as certain countries got rid of Russia, they voluntarily joined to NATO. Russia got its bases in Europe during WWII and using puppet governments. These things are not quite comparable.
