I believe it's Multimedia Message Service, which is texting video or photos as opposed to SMS, which is Short Message Service, a/k/a text message. Not exclusive to India, although there and throughout SouthEast Asia they prefer the term SMS to text message, but its the same thing.
Also, MMS and SMS should not be confused with S&M, which is something entirely different.
