As a guy who has an LT. rank in Russian army I can assure everyone here that Russian soldiers have no passports when they are on duty. Even here on the Russian territory and of course when they are acting elsewhere. According to the Geneva agreements of August 1949, the captured soldier must tell his name, rank, date of birth and his personal number. Nothing else. So Russian soldiers have no passports in their pockets. That's a rule.
The mercenaries may have anything they want, because they are mercenaries and Russian government has no control over them.
