3rd world women are unlikely to report rape, police will usually rape them again and ask "was it like this?"
1st world women report rape more often than it actually happens. I am sure there are a lot of rapes that go unreported in the US, but there are also a lot of women who didn't get a call back and report rape out of spite.
Edit: this comment has nothing to do with the incident in question, just replying to the implication that the US is a rape-happy wasteland with roving bands of ravaging rape gangs that no one can defend against.
