Most important thing is that excluding the early blitzkrieg victories; the WWII was war of attrition, like the WWI too. USA caused most of the attrition to Japan. Soviets just jumped to already catered table. And the opposite versus Germany; at the time USA landed to Europe, Soviets had already grinded Germany's forces.
