I saw it and its actually not bad.

My GF and I are moving and we haven't had much time for anything, and pretty much missed Valentines day, so yesterday I made it up to her by taking her out for for the day, then to a fancy "VIP" movie theatre in Brossard where we ate some delicious Calamari and other foods over a bottle of wine etc, and then for 50 Shades of Grey. The theatre itself had big leather chairs, big screen great sound, etc etc.

I was expecting the worst, after reading that the characters had no chemistry, that the movie was plagued with problems, etc) but actually it turned out to be good.

It's more of a romantic mushy movie with a bit of comedy thrown in (not quite a rom-com), than a soft-core porn. The actors were both good and believable in their parts. The cinematography was better than I expected too, and the soundtrack was good. Editing, directing, framing, you name it - all excellent.

The theatre was full and people seemed to have enjoyed it too.

The S&M B&D scenes were all very lightweight. This is expected since it is a hollywood movie, but it is also expected because of the story of the movie (not the book). No spoilers.

My GF enjoyed it a lot and noted there were various changes from the book, which is to be expected in any adaptation.

At any rate, the movie is getting a bad rap which it probably doesn't deserve. If you don't feel like shelling out the cash to see it in the theatre it would be worth a rental or watching when it comes to Netflix or Cable.
