Trademark law is supposed to prevent competitors from tarnishing or diluting the owner's trademark rights. There's nothing wrong with a company licensing rights to affiliates or franchises. McDonald's allows thousands of franchised restaurants to use their trademark legitimately, without fear of losing or weakening their mark.
