It's quite the contrary though when talking about the rappers I mentioned. People DO idolize them. When they start spewing their shit, whether it's for profit or not, people ARE going to listen to it and sadly, some are going to believe it.

If there were some kind of influx of black people killing white people and saying they were doing it because Dr. Dre or Ice Cube told them to I would then agree that these people wield heavy influence, but that isn't the case.
Sure, musicians do influence their fans to a degree, but for most it manifests itself as wanting to dress like them or talk like them or live like them. I can't ever remember hearing about a black person killing a white person because a rapper suggested they should (although it could have happened and we just don't know about it). This country, does, however, have a history of white people killing black people simply because they are black.
If there were an outbreak of rap-influenced racial shootings you can bet there would be a much stronger public reaction to these people.
