Black people beat each other up all the time for calling each other the n-word and
that's the logic people are forgetting.
The question about using the n-word is always posed as if the questioner is not
sophisticated enough to understand that words have a context.
When using racial slurs the context is often changed based on race; this is a matter of history.

As you mention, it all has context. A woman calling another woman a bitch isn't the same thing because there isn't a history of violence and degradation behind the word bitch.
Even without the context I have always felt that you shouldn't call someone something in fun that you wouldn't want anyone to call you. If you are a fat guy and you call another fat guy a slob, or even refer to yourself as a slob then you can't get upset when someone else calls you a slob.
If you don't want to be called a slop, lead by example and don't use the word.
