I can see it now. Hipster rides overpriced 'fixie' along cyclists that do have brakes. Intersection lights turn red at last moment. Others brake and wait, while hipster shaves off soles from hipster shoes. But hipster is too close to incoming traffic, so fase 2 of braking comes in effect: Throwing yourself off your bike, shave off skin on asphalt, come to a stop, pick up fixie and nonchalantly stand next to it while your hip tetanus scabs are already forming on knees and elbows.
