A good niche, you will find a good business, we do the same, actually a real filmmakers making movies... More expensive, but in the long run more profitable. We spent about $ 30 to $ 50,000 per movie ( used to spend more but you know... The Pirates). The traditional DVD and Cable TV buyers give us about 50 % and the rest we get off our own VOD platform... Fuck Roku, Hullu, etc.... The only problem is, that it takes about 6 months to recover, but then we are building a library...if you actually make it good you will have a winner.
We have been in pre sale business for years but now since DVD is basically dead and the VOD just takes and does not pay ( yet) , we use our existing clients and try to create a VOD sub-licensing deals with legit companies. It also helps if you are attending the the right synagogue in LA.
