Sadly few people now distinguish between US foreign policy and US as a country or a people. That is wrong but at the end of the day its a flaw in democracy that people like GWB could get voted into office in the first place.

Very true and well said. There's absolutely no reason so be so extended all over the world especially when the finances aren't there to pay for it.
