this is fucking hypocrisy. if he was actually appalled by inequality rather than concerned about PR, he wouldn't try to conceal
the benefit it's brought him at the expense of others.
I share his shoes. my mom's side of the family is Native and hasn't up until my mom's/aunts generation ever started to accumulate any real wealth. my dad's side is white and they've always been pretty well off-great except for the fact that my ancestors a few generations back got rich trafficking in human beings. In Canada the only peeps with that last name belong to my family, whereas in the US it's known as a somewhat common Black name. I'm sickened by the reason why
the point is though that even though I find their choices and actions abhorrent in reality I am a beneficiary of the wealth they generated. parents provide foundations for their children via access to higher education and inheritance and that endures and builds upon itself with each passing generation.
so yeah, looking at my life I have profited from the slave trade. growing up with access to the resources my dad brought to our family implicates me in that. I think it's important to own that though, negating unfair advantage serves only to replicate it.
