to provide a bit of context, Booker T Washington public beliefs and influence weren't exactly 100% positive for Black peeps in the US. For example, he advocated that peeps work within the punitive Jim Crow system rather than strive to change it (although to be fair in private his beliefs were more progressive)
The point is, a lot of what he said and wrote publicly is pretty problematic (and in some cases contrary to what he actually thought). His approach was also tied to a specific belief system regarding the connection between class and morality that today is still part of the problem.
