Started in 2013 with the rise in fuel prices and unfavorable feed crop conditions. That year our horse hay price tripled. We didn't see the high prices then because the market was flooded with beef from farmers culling their herd numbers. It just wasn't worth it for them to keep the numbers with the added cost. They reported a record yield in beef that year. farmers have been reluctant to jump back in, so demand outstrips supply at the moment. You can tell it's bad because lately supermarkets have been blending the beef with pork to avoid sticker shock. Somewhere militant vegans are rejoicing
