It has to be black empire? Well, excluding blacks, the muslims had empire around there all the way up to Spain, and about 500 years ago.
I will throw a ball back to you. Why didn't the all mighty and superior whiteys establish significant settlements around the equator, especially in the middle parts? Most whiteys live either in North-Africa, or in South-Africa, and even the rest somewhat near the coast.
