Yep, these machines allow both "swipe" and "insert" cards. They have been here (Europe) for years. Its more convenient and bit safer too to not lose your card out of your sight (exactly like Hardrock case described above) but in general it very easy to spot a PIN by someone standing next to you since the machine does not provide any cover. Same in the supermarkets. Person standing behind can pretty easy spot the digits you have been punching…
Since this is a new standard coming to America it means that all the shops, restaurants and basically everyone will have to invest in that machines and upgrade existing portals.
