I agree. We New Yorkers are just about the only people in America who could be considered 'international' and the equal of anyone and anywhere in the world. Maybe San Francisco, too.
When I travel I never tell people "I'm an American". I always say "I'm a New Yorker" and therefore get the respect I damn well deserve dammit.

"No, I am from New York."
Get it right. "America" is the shit you see on Fox and Jerry Springer.
