*Actually it was almost worked during 20s ( НЭП) and 60s ( Оттипель) of 20th century when Russia has made two real big leaps during a very short time (totally defeated illiteracy, won the space race, made mandatory vaccination, became the most educated country in the World etc). Unfortunately those achievements were lost in Brezhnev's times because of corruption, pretending and indifference.
P.S. In fact, we are still the most educated country on this planet: Russians are the Most Well Educated: UK Ranked Seventh

You seem to over look a problem the US has when it comes to healthcare. We have a population of 319 million people. Sweden has 9.5 mil, Switzerland has 8 mil, Norway has 5 million..
Those countries have the population of single states with-in the US. It's much easier to give your population free heathcare when you don't even have 1/10th the population which the US has..
However.. a state in the US with the population of Norway which is Massachusetts does have a working healthcare system where everyone is that state is covered. Obamacare was modeled after that state's healthcare system and it's goal is to get everyone covered with healthcare.. but once again we have 319 million people to cover even Russia does not have half of the US population..
